Organic Vs Non GMO

Organic Vs Non GMO

We get a lot of enquiries about if we are Organic and if we are Non GMO. We thought its best to dispel the myths and clarify what all this means

First off lets look at what each means

Organic

The term “organic” refers to how certain foods are produced and processed. Organic foods should be grown or cultivated without using:

In order for a food product to be organic, it should be free of artificial food additives. This also includes artificial sweeteners, preservatives, coloring, flavoring, and monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Organically grown crops use natural fertilizers like manure to improve plant growth. Animals raised organically are not given antibiotics or hormones. Organic farming tends to improve soil quality and the conservation of groundwater. It also reduces pollution and may be better for the environment. The most commonly purchased organic foods are fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Processed organic products are also available, such as sodas, cookies, and meat substitutes.

Not only is organic food good for the planet but its also good for those who consume it. Studies have shown that the nutritional profile of organic food is much better than non organic food products.

Non GMO

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are created through the process of genetic engineering: a technology that takes DNA from one organism and moves it into another, creating new varieties of plants and animals that wouldn’t be found in nature. Genetic engineering is prohibited in organic food and farming because of concerns about their environmental and health repercussions

Organic Vs Non GMO

So to get a bit more clarity Organic foods are essentially Non GMO but vice versa is not true. Non GMOs are not necessarily organic. Using GMO seeds in Organic cultivation is prohibited. Organic cultivation is Non GMO and much more. It is regulated and actively works to keep the influence of GMOs from neighboring farms at bay

Where does that leave us?

In our Let’sLive store, we have products that are curated with the highest levels of standards. All the rules that are required for a product to be qualified as organic have to be met before the farmer can sell his/her product on our platform. Having said that, there is no certification! All the farmers we work with are small scale and rural ones, who get by with their survival. They do not understand what it means to be certified. All they know is their craft and are loyal to the soil that they work with. Rest assured that all our products are organic since we personally see to it. They just do not have a third party seal of certification!

Try and test our products to see how they fare across other samples of the same product. You will be able to tell the difference!
